ATTACKING & BLOCKING

Go through the basic mechanics of the attack: footwork, timing, arm swing, wrist snap and landing, as well as decision making based on the opponent block positioning. Learn the nuances that make the attack different for outside hitters, middle hitters, right side hitters and the back row attack. Players will also go over the footwork of the blocking, body and arms/hands positioning, how to make an offensive and a defensive block, and of course, get many repetitions on both fundamentals.

PASSING & DEFENSE

Learn and review the fundamentals of passing and defense. Passing is how we call the serve receive and we will focus on the control of the platform and the ball, footwork, reading the server and you will get quality repetitions. For defense, although it is common to use the same fundamental, the underhand pass, players will experience proper set up position, dig a variety of attacks and reading the hitters in numerous defensive situations. Get many repetitions with quality!

SETTING

The setters will be a part of the attacking and blocking (in system) and passing and defense sessions (out of system). Setters will have specific feedback and will experience a variety of setting drills that will focus on the details of setting: quality of the pass, footwork and hand positioning. Setters will also receive training in aspects such as decision-making, dumping, running different offensive systems and the importance of a setter inside the team. Setters must train setting in system (good passes) and out of system (bad passes), and learn the differences between setting for the first ball side out and in transition from defense to offense.

SERVING

The one fundamental that nobody on the court will try to make you miss and you do not depend on anybody else is the serve. You have full control of it. Athletes will be coached to improve the technique and accuracy of serving. Loudoun Elite coaches will go over basic mechanics of standing float, jump float and the top spin serve as well as give you simple cues to help you master this fundamental that is so important in the modern volleyball. Players will also be coached on tactical aspects of the serve and how a good serve can work for your team. Serving is not just to send the ball over and start the rally, serving is much more than that!
